Your data
Privacy Policy
Krawl is made by Friedemann Lipphardt, an independent (solo) game developer based in Japan ("we", "us", "I"). This policy explains what information the Krawl mobile game collects, why, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. It's written to be read, not just filed.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for Krawl is Friedemann Lipphardt (sole proprietor), Japan. For any privacy question or request, contact [email protected].
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Optional account linking. Krawl works anonymously by default. If you choose to link an account (e.g. Sign in with Apple, Google Play Games) to back up your progress across devices, we receive a platform-provided identifier for that link. We do not receive your password.
- Support correspondence. If you email us, we keep your message and address to reply and to help.
Information collected automatically
- Device & technical data: device model, operating system and version, language and region, app version, and a randomly generated player/install identifier.
- Advertising identifiers: your device's advertising ID (Apple IDFA / Google Advertising ID) and related signals, where you have permitted it, used to show and measure ads.
- Gameplay & analytics: in-game events such as runs started, floors reached, features used, and crash/diagnostic reports — used to fix bugs and balance the game.
- Purchase records: confirmation that a purchase occurred and which product, provided by Apple or Google. We never receive your credit-card or full payment details — those are handled entirely by the app stores.
- Approximate location: a coarse, country-level location derived from your IP address (we do not collect precise GPS location).
3. The services we use
Krawl relies on a small number of third-party providers to run. When they process data on our behalf, they act as our service providers; some ad partners may also act as independent controllers for advertising. Their own privacy policies govern how they handle data:
- Unity Gaming Services (Unity Technologies) — anonymous authentication, cloud save, analytics, in-game economy, leaderboards, and push notifications. Unity privacy policy ↗
- Unity Ads — serving in-game advertisements. Unity privacy policy ↗
- AppLovin MAX — advertising mediation and measurement. AppLovin privacy policy ↗
- Apple App Store and Google Play — app distribution and processing of in-app purchases. Apple ↗ · Google ↗
4. Why we use your data
- To operate the game, save and sync your progress, and process your purchases.
- To show and measure advertising (unless you have removed ads).
- To understand how Krawl is played so we can fix bugs, balance difficulty, and improve it.
- To protect the game and players from cheating, fraud, and abuse.
- To respond to your support requests and to meet legal obligations.
Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases: performance of our contract with you (running the game and purchases), our legitimate interests (analytics, security, improvement), your consent (personalized advertising, where required), and compliance with legal obligations.
5. Advertising & your choices
Krawl is free to play and supported by ads. You have real control over them:
- Remove ads entirely with the one-time "Remove Ads" in-app purchase.
- iOS: control ad tracking under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking (App Tracking Transparency). If you don't allow tracking, you'll still see ads, but they won't be personalized using your advertising ID.
- Android: reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalization, under Settings → Privacy → Ads.
- EEA/UK: where required, we ask for your consent to personalized ads through a consent prompt, and you can change your choice at any time in the game's settings.
6. Children
Krawl is rated for players aged 12 and over and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it. Where ads are shown to users we cannot verify as adults, we instruct our ad partners to serve non-personalized ads as required by applicable law and store policies.
7. How long we keep data
We keep your saved-game and account-link data for as long as you use Krawl, and delete or anonymize it within a reasonable period after your account becomes inactive or upon a valid deletion request. Analytics and diagnostic data are retained only as long as needed for the purposes above. Purchase records are kept as required for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes.
8. International transfers
We and our service providers may process your data in countries other than yours, including the United States, where data-protection laws may differ. Where required, our providers use appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email [email protected] and we'll respond within the time required by law.
- EEA/UK: you also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
- California (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know, delete, and correct your information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell your personal information for money. Sharing advertising identifiers with ad partners for cross-context behavioral advertising may be considered "sharing"; you can opt out using the device controls in Section 5 or a Global Privacy Control signal. We do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
- Japan (APPI): you may request disclosure, correction, or deletion of your personal data as provided under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and to limit what we collect in the first place.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Krawl evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in-game. Continuing to play after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
